Well, a couple positive things happened "today" (working third shift and keeping vampire hours makes "today" a fuzzy concept).

Original pr0n anyone?
Jun. 24th, 2009 11:26 amI've got some stories that I've had sitting around for a while that are pretty much flat out PWPs and I cannot sell them for various reasons. Mostly because nobody likes noncon, underage, or incest due to legality issues (even though it is technically legal to write and publish [almost] anything in the United States because it's Free Speech.) and possibly the squik point of the general public.
So, as much as these started as my pet jerk-off stories, I can't seem to manage to write "masturbatory" stories, to put it the way my most incompetent writing prof did. She meant writing purely for one's own amusement, not sex per se, but you get the idea. I'd have to polish them a little, but I don't think it'd be too much work. I might post the oldest one up untouched so you can laugh at my jr high sex scenes.
This also brings up another question; I can think of three published authors off the top of my head who are publicly known to have written fanfiction. Presumably, this has not caused them to be sued because I'm pretty sure I would have heard about it. At this point, is there any *legal* reason keep your RL name from being associated with your fic writing activities?

I wasn't planing on trying this myself...
Jun. 8th, 2009 01:57 amI've spent the last couple weeks driving insanely long periods of time over an insanely large portion of the US (Ok, just the bit north of the Mason-Dixon line and east of the Mississippi). Having tried it, I can attest that chain hotels are mind-numbingly soulless and boring (although they have lots of fluffy pillows). Chain food is pretty much the same: soul-killing and lacking in any sense of place.
I was on too short a trip to do anything about accommodations part way through, but at the tail end I was bypassing the McDonalds near my start point for the day in favor of doing sudden U-turns at 11 AM so I could buy food from an in-home bakery with an "open" flag faded almost white and a hand-written sign advertising donuts. I paid $1.50 for one of the best pastries I've had in my entire life and had a delightful conversation about local history with the lady who owned the place.
I've done this before in unfamiliar cities; just find a likely looking cafe or whatever and try it. Extra points for lots of locals eating there. I've come up with a few duds, but most have been pretty good and some have been excellent.
Save the chains for days when you really can't handle the unexpected, but remember you won't get anything unexpectedly good that way either.

Jensen = Leon?
Jun. 2nd, 2009 03:51 amOh, I just have to squee about this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1220634/
Just for an understanding as to why I'm squeeing, my previous fandom, which I still have plenty of fondness for, was Devil May Cry (series of video games by Capcom). Resident Evil is also originally a series of Capcom video games and the first Devil May Cry game was actually initially intended to be a Resident Evil game. As a result, Resident Evil is one of the more popular crossovers with Devil May Cry, possibly the most popular. As Leon is something of a bishonen (and so has something of a following amount yaoi fangirls), pairing him with Dante, the main character of Devil May Cry is pretty common. SQUEEEEEEE! *runs off to write fics*

Why I can't be a Feminist/Lesbian part 1
Jun. 1st, 2009 06:30 pmI’ve been having some difficulties defining myself. I’m kinda sexually attracted to girls, but if I am a lesbian, then I am a Feminist, because lesbian is a subset of Feminist. One of the key elements of Feminism is “a woman’s right to choose (to have an abortion)”.
I was going to keep my big mouth shut on this, but it's too late for that now.
( This is only just barely related to slash at all )

Maybe it was the bacon?
May. 21st, 2009 02:48 amI was unreasonably stressed this morning; I had my last final (ever!) and had to turn in a paper and all I've got left is my editing homework. But for some ridiculous reason I got all stressed out, even though I wasn't even slightly worried about the test. Part of it might have been that I ate breakfast; I don't normally do that.
So I spent some quality time in the bathroom wondering if I was going to throw up and if it wouldn't be better to just get it over with. I eventually concluded that I could safely go print off my paper and still be able to get to the trashcan before anything nasty happened. So I got through that ok and then dragged myself back to the dorm for a nap.
And then I remembered why I don't take naps in the middle of the day; I have freaky weird dreams. Like, freaky weird for me freaky weird. This one discussed some piece of RPS that paired Jensen Ackles and Chuck Colson. Which is a whole new level of crack and left me freaked out like I'd had a nightmare, which I sort of had.
(BTW, given rule 34, someone's already done it, but please don't actually write Jensen/Chuck Colson. Colson is the sort who'd actually sue you, or bring down the wrath of the Christian Right on your head, which would be worse for us all.)

Book Review: The Threesome Handbook
May. 20th, 2009 11:25 pmHaha! I am again writing book reviews, purely because I can. My victim *ahem* subject for today is a little piece of joy called The Threesome Handbook: A Practical Guide to Sleeping with Three written by Vicki Vantoch. I’d skimmed it a few months ago, January-ish I think, doing “research” (I love that word). I was really looking for something more porn and schematics, but I was surprised and impressed at how practical this book was. Sure, I’d gone in looking for fantasy material, but the details on how to actually get threesomes to happen and work were unique.

I’m unspoiled for the finale beyond the trailer, so this is all very unfounded speculation, but bear with me as I pop into the time machine.
Supernatural also has a strong tendency to repeat itself over and over again. Sam calls Dean bossy, Dean insists it’s his way or the highway. Sam says that Dean doesn’t know him. But the very fact that Dean is *there* clearly shows that he does know Sam.
Let’s compare this with a few other fights the boys have had, shall we?
( Spoilers await )

Grrr Boo Hiss
May. 7th, 2009 02:13 amIs it the craptastic internet here at school or does the "streaming video" function on the CW site completely fail to work for everyone else too?

Sucktastic motels
May. 1st, 2009 01:42 amThe bad news is that I couldn't watch tonight's episode of Supernatural on account of being on a stupid overnight field trip. Said field trip mostly involves going to a lot of very boring places that with shinny statues, smell of incense, have very thick carpet, and make you take your shoes off. Blerg. Religion is interesting, but at this point it's interesting as the opiate of the masses rather than for any real philosophical reasons.
