I suspect that most of the people who do this are secretly titillated by the subject, but won't admit it, possibly even to themselves. I kinda feel sorry for them actually.
Glad to see that you have the wisdom to avoid stuff you know'll drive you to misbehavior. I keep away from the Narnia fandom because I know that I can't stand to see my childhood love dragged through the inevitable muck (for some reason, incest in that fandom bugs me).
And the best revenge is living well and doing more of whatever pissed them off :D
