A week or so and two hundred dollars later, my laptop is back up and running. As best as I can tell, the battery and the transformer crapped out on my almost simultaneously, which is why I had to replace both. But at least it's working again.
But I did learn a few interesting things along the way; it is almost impossible to buy a replacement laptop battery from a bricks-and-mortar store, especially if you have an older laptop (Come on people, aren't older laptops the ones that are more likely to need new batteries?) So I had to buy my battery on-line. I've got a Dell, so I looked at the Dell store, but they were kind of expensive. But it can be hard to tell with on-line retailers who's reputable, so I asked around to my friends and someone suggested Tigerdirect. My suggestion to you? Dell would have been a better option. For some inexplicable reason, Tigerdirect sent the battery not to my address at school where I told them to send it, but to the billing address, my home address. Shipping cost twice as much and took twice as long. On the other hand, they were prompt, it was the right item, and it actually showed up.
Apparently Walmart doesn't have replacement laptop transformers at all anymore, so I had to buy my transformer from Best Buy. For some reason, I don't like shopping there. There doesn't seem to be a logical reason for that dislike, there's just something I don't like about Best Buy. Maybe it's the way that the store itself and the sales people in particular seem to assume that I have a bottomless wallet. Price IS a concern sometimes people!
And of course, there's the lesson I think I've learned every single time something goes wrong with one of my computers but I always forget; back up your stuff regularly.
My fanfics are all behind because I couldn't work on any of my existent stuff. On the other hand, I' also almost done with a Supernatural oneshot because I didn't have anything else to work on.
Today was also the first day of the last semester of my college career, if things go as planned. Doesn't look too bad. Lots of reading though and I'll be in trouble if I don't discipline myself to keep up.
