Supernatural Fanfic: Rationalization
A 200 word short in which Sam rationalizes to himself why he doesn't salt and burn Dean's body. The reason is a little different than you might have thought. Deathfic, obviously.

Sam didn’t salt and burn Dean’s body like he should have. Sam didn’t want to give up hope of resurrecting his brother, but more importantly, he knew Dean would kill him if he got back and the Impala was gone.
Dean had been conceived on the hood of the Impala (so John had said, in a particularly drunken and nostalgic moment). He had been born in the backseat (a story they’d been told a few times). He had lost his virginity in the passenger seat (as he boasted to Sam).
Dean had grown up in the Impala, lived in it his whole life. It was his territory. It was an extension of himself.
And that was the thing. Sam figured that if that Klan ghost had managed to attach himself to his truck, there was no way that Dean’s spirit wasn’t attached to the Impala. And Dean had made it very clear that the Impala was Sam’s to take care of in his absence.
So maybe, maybe, if Dean’s spirit started kicking up trouble, Sam would dig him up and burn him. But he’d have to burn the Impala as well and that... that was something he just couldn’t do.
